2002: Brunch with the Quartermaines
Lori Horaney

August 24, 2002 was a picture perfect day outside the Universal Hilton in Universal City, California. Inside the Universal Hilton the ballroom was decorated and prepared for the classiest party of the GH Weekend to celebrate 25 years of Alan and Monica.

As the fans entered the ballroom they were greeted with festive tables that were obviously ready for a celebration. Beautiful balloon bouquets tied to bottles of cider were the centerpieces of each table. The tops of the tables were decorated with silver Happy Anniversary and "25" confetti. On each chair was a program designed by Chrissy Holler. The front of the program took us down memory lane with 4 wonderful pictures of Alan and Monica. Inside the program were personal messages written to Leslie and Stuart from their fans, friends, and fellow actors.

As fans gathered for the event and waited for the start of the party, they were able to purchase souvenirs. Items for purchase included many pictures of Leslie with Stuart, The Qs and various cast members as well as other merchandise items. Next came the raffle items, which included many props from the set such as matchbooks and napkins from Luke, and Laura's first wedding and Club 101, autographed photos, and some wardrobe items, including Monica's robe she wore when Alan told her he was her secret admirer, And this year was the first year that a silent auction was held. Items were listed and bid on by the fans which included wardrobe items, a set tour with Leslie, as well as an autograph package that included a script, photo and Leslie's personal Demo Reel which is not available anywhere. Some of the proceeds from the auction were donated to The Wellness Community of Los Angeles.

Finally, the moment had arrived. Krista began the introductions of the actors. Entering from the back of the room were Susan Brown, Wally Kurth, Amber Tamblyn, Robin Christopher, Billy Warlock. Alicia Lee Willis, John Ingle escorting Anna Lee, and Denise Alexander. At this point Krista handed the microphone over to Denise Alexander who made a lovely introduction of "the greatest couple" to hit daytime. With all eyes on the back of the room, expecting Leslie and Stuart to enter, 'The Way We Were' started playing overhead and Leslie entered in a passionate embrace with not Stuart, but Chris Robinson. The groping couple appeared to be surprised to have been caught by so many people. The crowd went wild with laughter and applause with the wonderful entrance from Leslie and Chris.

Once the brunch had been served and everyone had a chance to eat, the Q&A began. Some of the memorable Q&As were from Alicia Willis who responded that she did think Courtney was a little afraid of Monica after she slapped her. John Ingle in character as Edward informed us he didn't know why Alan and Monica stayed together all these years. Anna Lee let us know that laughter is a definite key ingredient to making love last. Chris Robinson informed us that Rick was dead but that you never know. Denise said that "Monica" is definitely to blame for Rick and Monica's affair. "Just look at her! She's a slut!" Leslie thanked her. "Monica takes great pride in being a slut." Leslie thanked everyone for their support of her and Monica as she said she couldn't believe it's been 25 years on GH. On behalf on the LCFC, Krista and Kay presented Leslie and Stuart with a beautiful crystal statuette their 25 th anniversary, a lovely bouquet of roses, and the finale a delicious cake donned with "Happy Anniversary to GH's Brightest Stars."

The time had come to meet the actors. While Wally, Billy, and Alicia had to leave early the other actors were brought to the tables to sign autographs and pose for pictures. Everyone, fans and actors included, commented how the Q Brunch is always the most organized and classy party of the entire weekend.

This party certainly outdid the others I have attended. Not only was the party to celebrate such a milestone, but it was a classy party for a classy couple. The hard work from all of those who help to put the brunch on is always appreciated. If you've never had an opportunity to attend Brunch with the Quartermaines it is definitely worth the trip.
